I would like to secure my bike outside the front of my house, what is the best way to do this?

I've noticed some people on my street have a metal bar built into the brickwork at the front of their house, is this the best way? How can this be done or is there a better way?

There are anchors that you can cement into the ground or bolt to the wall, they can be bought from very large b&q's and screwfix.
