Why do people do DIY?

Answers (2)

People 'do it yourself' for a number of reasons. Some people who have a lot of time on their hands do it as a hobby, it's a fun way to learn about new things. Other people do it to save money and cut out the middle man. DIY can be fun but you always have to be aware of the ever present dangers and make sure you read up on anything you need to do before you setting out. Be extra careful when working with electricity. Have fun with DIY!

Usually because it's cheaper than hiring a professional, and it's satisfying to fix your own problems yourself. The difficulty comes when people's enthusiasm exceeds their competence, and then it often costs more to put right what should have been done professionally to start with; however it is a way to learn - reading a good DIY manual is preferable! In short, go for it, but within the bounds of your abilities - otherwise hire in, it's usually cheaper in the long run!
